Are you growing your network? If you aren’t I hate to break it to you your network is dying. Why do I say this? Are you thinking “Hey, I have enough people in my network I don’t need anymore!”. That might be true but think about this for a second.
Networks of people are always changing. That means your ability to get referrals and build a network of people that can help you is always changing and your ability to help them is always changing. So before you decide to not grow your network thing about what can happen in your network.
In your network the following things can happen at anytime
- People will move - yes because of the Internet and everything they will still be a part of your network although they probably won’t be buying or selling a home with you if they move out of your area.
- People will leave this earth - You got it they will pass away and they permanently got out of your network and they won’t be able to help you anymore.
- People will get divorced - Things happen and people decide to separate. You probably will only be friends with one of them. Don’t give me the “I will be friends with both speech” because it just isn’t realistic. The fact is you know one better than the other.
-
You will offend someone and they won’t want to hear from you - Like it or not you will eventually rub someone the wrong way. They will leave your network and while your probably won’t ever know it because they just won’t call you they will leave because of something you said, did, or maybe even that you were going to do.
Grow your network steadily over time
So I am saying that you should just add anyone to your network? No of course not. For those who have listened to the “Network Like a Hollywood Pro CD” you know that we don’t preach just adding anyone. You should always be on the lookout though for those you feel will be a valuable part of your network at any time.
Set a goal to grow your network with quality people and even the kind of people you would like to know. That makes it easier to focus on a target.
